Todd Howard Wishes Bethesda Never Announced Elder Scrolls 6
Eight years after that brief teaser, Todd Howard is basically asking everyone to pretend it never happened.
Todd Howard has admitted he would have preferred not to announce The Elder Scrolls 6 back in 2018. In comments made to IGN in a recent interview that will not surprise anyone who has been waiting eight years for a follow-up, Howard's suggested approach to the situation is roughly: "Just pretend we didn't announce it. Doesn't exist. No one's heard a word."
The announcement at E3 2018 was barely anything to begin with, just a brief pan over mountains and ruins with the logo. At the time it probably seemed like a safe way to acknowledge the game existed without committing to anything. Eight years later, with Starfield out and the next Elder Scrolls still nowhere in sight, that decision looks very different.
Howard's regret makes sense. The announcement set expectations without giving fans anything concrete to hold onto, and every year that passes without news makes the wait feel longer. At this point, pretending it was never announced might actually be less painful for everyone involved.
