The Studio Behind Just Cause Is Working on a New Game
Avalanche Studios is developing a new AAA open-world game, but it's likely not Just Cause 5, according to recent job postings and statements from the studio's co-founder.
In just three more weeks, we'll mark 7 years since Avalanche Studios' last game, Rage 2. But the studio is best known for the Just Cause series. Personally, I think the third game was simply phenomenal and did an excellent job delivering everything we could want from an explosions-and-action-packed game like it. It was followed by Just Cause 4 in 2018, which tried to build on its predecessor in many ways but ultimately failed at almost all of them, turning out to be a pale and anemic game that couldn't meet player expectations and received very lukewarm reviews.
Now we're getting word that the studio is working on a new open-world game. The information comes from a new job posting which states it's for an unannounced AAA game that will be based on the company's Apex Engine. The job description doesn't provide details about the game itself, and while it would be easy to assume it's Just Cause 5, that's probably not the case, as one of the studio's co-founders wrote a few months ago that it's not an option, along with reports from last year that the fifth game was indeed in development but got cancelled. All this leads us to believe it's an entirely new IP that the studio is currently working on, and hopefully it'll be revealed soon.
