FBC: Firebreak Receives Its Final Content Update

FBC: Firebreak has received its final content update, Open House, though developer Remedy promises the game will remain online for years to come despite low player counts.

It appears this is the beginning of the end for FBC: Firebreak, which has now received its final content update, Open House, drawing heavy inspiration from Control, also developed by Remedy. The new update includes new maps, gameplay fixes and polish, several new armor sets, a significant price drop, and even a free copy to share with a friend for those who purchased the game, but it's expected to be the last content update for sure.

Despite this being the final content update, with only bug fix patches expected in the future if and when they crop up, developer Remedy promises that the game "will remain online and active for many years," emphasizing "we've performed relevant engineering work to ensure we can maintain the servers even for a small player count in the future," which is very encouraging to hear in an era where many developers and publishers seem eager to abandon any game that doesn't succeed.

Recently, it appears the game has been on its deathbed, with an active player count on Steam at the time of writing of only 14 players, compared to a daily peak of 39 players and an all-time peak of 1,992 players—numbers that certainly don't justify keeping a game online, which is likely also the reason that alongside the game's price drop to a fixed price of only about $19.99, the game will now also come with a Friend's Pass, allowing anyone who has purchased or will purchase the game to share it completely free with another friend, presumably in the hope that it will help, even a little.
