Surprise: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Gets Free Remaster

Ahead of the launch of The Witcher 3's new expansion, the game is receiving a dramatic upgrade that's free for all players

Eleven years ago, one of the greatest role-playing games of all time was released: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which to this day is considered one of the most beloved games of the previous generation, with plenty of people still playing it. Very surprisingly, a few months ago in May, we received an official announcement that the game is getting a new expansion pack after all these years called Songs of the Past. Tonight, as part of Gamescom's ONL, we got a look at the expansion, but we received so much more than that even before then.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is about to receive a particularly major update that will officially turn the game into a Remastered version of itself, and not only that, this update will be free for all players who own the game and will release on September 29th. The update will include various changes ranging from visuals, improvements to its combat system, movement and riding systems, behavior of different monsters, an updated Skill Tree, a transmog system for Geralt's appearance, and a particularly long list of additional updates—all of them, again, free for all players who own the game.

After a difficult period that followed the release of Cyberpunk 2077, it seems CD Projekt Red is on a roll with all the right decisions for them, in what feels like a very successful PR campaign so far ahead of the release of Songs of the Past and later also the release of The Witcher IV.
