Sony Regrets Its Decision and Will No Longer Release Single-Player Games on PC

Sony is reversing its PC porting strategy, with future single-player games remaining PlayStation 5 exclusive, though multiplayer titles will still launch on both platforms.

Every bubble eventually bursts

In recent years we've seen a shift in Sony's game distribution strategy as the company began releasing more and more of its games on PC—games that until then were exclusive to PlayStation. This move brought Sony great success with sales on a new platform alongside reaching a larger and broader player audience. The next Sony title expected to release on PC that many players are looking forward to is Death Stranding 2, arriving March 19, but now it appears it will also be among the last games to do so along with Kena: Scars of Kosmora.

According to a new report from Bloomberg, Sony is once again changing its distribution strategy, with future single-player games launching exclusively for PlayStation 5. It was also noted that in recent weeks Sony canceled plans to release a PC port of Ghost of Yotei, which many players were expecting following the dizzying success of Ghost of Tsushima on PC. This means games like Saros or Marvel's Wolverine that we would have expected to receive on PC at one point or another are also expected to be PS5 exclusives only. However, multiplayer games from the company like Marathon, releasing tomorrow, or Marvel Tokon will launch on PC alongside PlayStation. Sony did say this decision may change in the future depending on the gaming industry landscape, but for now this is the guiding policy.
