Six Years After Its Announcement: State of Decay 3 Entering Closed Alpha Next Month
State of Decay 3, announced in 2020, is finally entering closed alpha in May. The studio has confirmed the game will feature four-player co-op and appears to be closer to completion than a standard alpha build.
Eight years ago, the second game in the State of Decay series launched to rave reviews and a fanbase that has grown fiercely dedicated over the years — and enjoyed phenomenal post-launch support with major updates continuing until last year. Despite that, there's been a frustrating story surrounding the series — with a third game announced back in 2020, no news until last year, and even then we still didn't get a release date or any concrete information. Today, that changes.
The developer has announced a closed beta for the game starting in May. Registration for the build can be found here. In addition to announcing the alpha, the studio behind the series revealed it has already let some content creators play the game, and that it's in a much more final state than a standard alpha — so we suspect this is more of a term for the general audience rather than the actual development state of the game, which is likely nearing completion. Finally, they confirmed the game will have a four-player co-op mode. Nice.
