Rumor: The Portable PS6 Will Be More Powerful Than the Xbox Series S

A new rumor suggests Sony is working on a portable console codenamed Canis to launch alongside the PS6, with specs reportedly exceeding the Xbox Series S in both traditional and ray tracing rendering.

Let's say this right from the start: we still don't know what Sony's plans are for the next console generation. While Xbox is making plenty of noise on the subject and openly discussing the next generation with great pride, Sony is keeping its cards very close to the chest and essentially saying nothing. Nevertheless, next-gen rumor season has already begun, and as time goes on we'll hear more and more rumors about Microsoft and Sony, like the one we're bringing you now.

Over the past few months, we've already heard several times about the possibility of a portable console launching alongside the PS6, and according to a new thread posted on NeoGaf, we're getting rumors about the hardware and capabilities we can expect from this console. The console's codename is Canis, and regarding its graphics capabilities, it's said they will be slightly more powerful than those of the Series S in classic rendering and "far beyond it" in Ray Tracing rendering. Alongside the "raw" power of the console, it's stated that PSSR 3 will have improved performance that will even surpass that of today's DLSS 4.5. Other known details include that Canis will apparently feature backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5, memory card and M.2 drive slots, around 24GB of memory, and support for haptics and a touchscreen. According to various reports, Canis is expected to begin production in mid-2027 with a planned launch in late 2027 - early 2028. And as interesting as this sounds, it should be noted that these are currently rumors and we have no official confirmation from Sony on any of these details.
