Resident Evil Requiem Sold Over 5 Million Copies in Its First Weekend

Capcom announced that Resident Evil Requiem sold over 5 million copies during its first weekend, surpassing the Resident Evil 4 remake's initial sales of 3 million in its first two days.

A true record!

Without a doubt, the Resident Evil series is one of the most beloved and recognizable gaming franchises in history. It's a series that many different players have an emotional connection to—both to its characters and to the storyline that only continues to get more complex with each game. There was a lot of excitement leading up to the release of the latest game in the series, Requiem, and this past weekend the game finally launched to especially positive reviews (including our own here), and it looks like it's also on track to become one of the highest-rated games by users on Metacritic, managing to surpass even Cory in the White House (yes, you read that right) and currently tied with Expedition 33. But alongside all the positive reactions to the game, it seems to be doing very well at the box office too.

Today, Capcom announced on social media that the new game in the series managed to sell over 5 million copies during its first weekend on sale. This is an especially fast hit, as it manages to surpass the sales figures of the Resident Evil 4 remake, which recorded particularly impressive sales of 3 million copies in its first two days (and as of last April had sold around 10 million copies). Many things contributed to the massive excitement for this game, one of which is likely related to the fact that Leon Kennedy, one of the most beloved characters in the Resident Evil series, returns to center stage in this game, but there was also a very successful promotional campaign for the game that, for the first time in a very long time, did not receive a demo before the game's release.

Resident Evil Requiem launched just last Friday, the excitement around it certainly hasn't died down, and it seems that with this level of enthusiasm, we can probably expect some DLC in the near future as well—but what will it contain? Your guess is as good as mine. In the meantime, what do you think about this? Have you played the new game yet? What do you think of it? Feel free to share with us in the comments!
