Pearl Abyss CEO Considering Crimson Desert Port for Switch 2

Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young revealed the studio has begun internal research and development on a potential Switch 2 port for Crimson Desert, though significant compromises would be required due to hardware limitations.

It's been a little over a week and a half since Crimson Desert launched, and there's no doubt it's on its way to becoming one of the main contenders for game of the year. You can read our full thoughts on it in our complete review, but it seems we're far from the only ones who loved it, as Pearl Abyss, the studio behind the game, announced it's on the verge of crossing five million copies sold.

During a conversation with investors held over the weekend, Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young was asked about the possibility of a port of the game for the Switch 2. In response, he said that "while there are aspects we would need to compromise on because the Switch has lower specs compared to other consoles, we have begun internal research and development with great interest [in the matter]." It must be said, we often see statements from companies exploring such directions for their games, and these investigations frequently end up leading nowhere. Right now it's too early to say whether Crimson Desert will or won't receive a Switch 2 port, but it's definitely encouraging to see the studio thinking in this direction, especially with a game of this scale. What is certain is that the Switch 2 is significantly weaker compared to the game's minimum requirements, so if we do see a version for Nintendo's console, it will require quite a few compromises as mentioned, along with a development process that will also take some time.
