Official: Ubisoft Confirms Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Remake is Real
Ubisoft has officially confirmed that the Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag remake is real and will be called Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced.
Some would say it took way too long, but better late than never - Ubisoft officially confirmed today (Wednesday) that the remake of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is real, and that following the many rumors about it, it will be called Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced. The game's release date or substantial details about the project have not yet been revealed.
This exciting update comes as part of a series of announcements the company provided under the umbrella titled "Assassin's Creed: Into 2026," where the company revealed several new developments and updates about the franchise. Ubisoft also added to that content a first concept image directly related to the anticipated game, showing the character Edward Kenway standing on a ship's mast. The first rumors about the game surfaced online relatively long ago (rumors about the project's name appeared online in recent months), and many had already written it off following the wave of layoffs and game cancellations that hit the company about a month ago, which among other things led to the cancellation of the anticipated Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake.
Ubisoft announced several other interesting updates, including first details about two new projects. The first project, code-named "Hexe," will be according to the company "a unique and dark Assassin's Creed experience" set in a particularly important historical period. The company noted that the development team (based at the company's Montreal studio) is taking their time with the project to ensure a quality product, and therefore it will take quite a while before we hear about this project again.
The second project, code-named "Invictus," will be a new PvP multiplayer game in the franchise's world, to be developed by the team that brought us For Honor from 2017, which is considered in my opinion at least to be one of the best competitive games the company has ever released. This game will also be developed by a team at the company's Montreal studio, though it was clarified here that the game does not align with the web of rumors the internet has been promoting around it, and that it's actually a "new" approach to a multiplayer game within the franchise.
