New Rumor Hints That a Remake of the Original Assassin's Creed Is on the Way
Following last week's official announcement of Assassin's Creed Black Flag's remake, new rumors suggest that the original Assassin's Creed may be the next game in the series to receive a remake.
Just last week we got an official announcement after a rumor mill, and it looks like it's finally happening— Assassin's Creed Black Flag, which was without a doubt one of the most popular titles in the game series, is getting a remake that's already generating a lot of excitement from fans. But it seems Ubisoft has no intention of stopping there. Now the rumors have moved on, hinting that the next game in the series expected to receive a remake is none other than the first Assassin's Creed.
One of the points fueling the new rumor comes from streamer xj0nathan, who claimed on X (formerly Twitter) that he heard from a "source" somewhere back in 2023 that the first game in the series is expected to be the next game to get new life. This alone obviously doesn't confirm anything, but significant reinforcement comes from Yves Guillemot, one of Ubisoft's founders, who himself confirmed in 2024 that several remakes are definitely in the works, which would allow the company to modernize and re-explore the worlds of older Assassin's Creed games, though he didn't commit to exactly which games he meant. Despite Ubisoft's financial situation and several cancellations that have already been announced, further support for the rumor and its accuracy even now comes from another source in the latest episode of Insider Gaming Weekly, where it was noted that there is indeed at this moment another title from the series in remake development, and that it's "one of the earlier games."
So while there's still nothing official, when you think about the situation logically, it wouldn't be surprising at all to see Ubisoft decide to continue down this path. After a long period of harsh criticism from the fan base, the excitement surrounding Black Flag Resynced seems like a refreshing breeze that's surely managing to fill the company's sails, so it's natural they'd choose to continue in that direction, and if they do indeed do so, it makes sense they'd also choose to go with one of the more popular games in the series that's in exactly the ideal position to return to center stage.
