New Report Claims Warhorse Is Working on a Lord of the Rings Game

An unverified report suggests that Warhorse, the Czech studio behind the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, is developing a third-person open-world action game set in the Lord of the Rings universe.

We've known for a few months now that Warhorse, the Czech studio behind the excellent Kingdom Come: Deliverance duo, is working on a new project. While it's not yet clear exactly what that new project is, rumors are starting to surface, and it looks like we now have a new report that gives us the general direction it's heading—and that's apparently Middle-earth.

Six months ago, we told you about a new Lord of the Rings game in development that had already received substantial initial funding in the region of $100 million. That game is expected to be a third-person open-world action game set in the Lord of the Rings universe and was said to be developed by one of Embracer's studios (which holds the development rights for Lord of the Rings games). Now we're getting reports that the developing studio is actually Warhorse. It should be said that this is an unverified report at this stage and we haven't received any official announcement on the matter, but considering Warhorse's track record and the abilities we've already seen them demonstrate in telling deep stories brilliantly while creating a whole, living world that immerses the player with engaging mechanics, this sounds like a good idea and like a studio that could deliver the Lord of the Rings adventure the fan community has been wanting for years.
