New Report Claims The Last of Us Remake Was Chosen Over Uncharted Remake
A new report reveals that Naughty Dog considered developing a remake of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune around 2018-2019, but ultimately abandoned the project in favor of The Last of Us remake.
I don't think anyone needs an introduction to the Uncharted game series. For me, it's a legendary series that brought us some of the best adventure games we've ever received, with Indiana Jones and the Great Circle perhaps being the only game that's come close to matching them. Despite the great appreciation and love that the Uncharted games enjoy, we haven't gotten a new game in the franchise for almost a decade now, and it's uncertain whether we'll get one in the future.
Now we're getting a report that around 2018-2019, Naughty Dog considered developing a remake of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, the first game in the Uncharted series. Work on the remake progressed to a prototype that was developed together with Visual Arts Support Group and featured graphics equivalent to those of Uncharted 4, but ultimately the studio decided to abandon the project and focus on The Last of Us remake instead. The reason was that refreshing The Last of Us was an easier and more modern project that required less work on level design and graphical elements that hadn't aged well at all in Uncharted's case. The information about the Drake's Fortune remake comes from a source named Thekempy who found evidence of it in The Last of Us 2 code, which used the same engine. Right now we have no information about any continuation of development on that remake, but there's a chance that in the future Naughty Dog will return to the idea and continue it, though that's speculation and our own personal hope.
