New Report Claims Halo Multiplayer Game Development Has Been Cancelled
Project Ekur, a rumored Halo multiplayer game with Extraction elements and extensive customization, has been confirmed as cancelled by a reliable source, though several other Halo games remain in development.
Almost two years ago, we told you that 343 industries, the company behind the Halo brand, underwent a rebranding and name change to become Halo Studios. But the name change wasn't merely semantic, as a shift to Unreal Engine 5 was announced along with work on several different Halo games. One of those games is Halo: Campaign Evolved, which is expected to arrive as early as next week.
But as mentioned, alongside Halo: Campaign Evolved, there were several other games in development. While we haven't received an official announcement about what those games are, there are plenty of rumors circulating around them, with one name coming up repeatedly: Project Ekur. According to various reports, Ekur was expected to be a multiplayer game set in the Halo universe with certain Extraction game elements and extensive design and customization capabilities. Recently, reports emerged that Ekur had been cancelled, and now Jez Corden from WindowsCentral, who is considered to have reliable sources, confirmed those rumors and wrote: "Halo Studios was working on a multiplayer game called Project Ekur that was cancelled. I've verified the information as 100% accurate." Despite this cancellation, there are at least several other Halo games currently in development, with plenty of rumors about what is expected to be "Halo 7" - the next main installment of the franchise.
