Minecraft Dungeons II Officially Announced — Coming to PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, and PC in Fall 2026

Mojang Studios and Double Eleven have revealed Minecraft Dungeons II at Minecraft Live, bringing back the loot-driven action RPG with a brand-new villain, never-before-seen locations, and a Fall 2026 release window.

Mojang Studios and co-developer Double Eleven have officially announced Minecraft Dungeons II, the long-awaited sequel to the 2020 action RPG. The reveal took place at Minecraft Live alongside an announcement trailer — though an early Steam store page leak partially spoiled the surprise beforehand.

A mysterious new villain is at the center of the story, described as someone "ready to rain down his terrible wrath upon the land." Players will take on the role of new heroes to stop this growing threat across environments that go well beyond what the original game offered.

Minecraft Dungeons II retains the isometric action RPG format of its predecessor with loot drops, skill progression, and combat arenas packed with enemies — all playable solo or in co-op for up to 4 players. New locations include areas like Honeycomb Fields, Desert, and Forest biomes, uncovered ahead of the announcement through datamining.

The original Minecraft Dungeons launched in 2020 and went on to reach 25 million players by September 2023, earning a respectable 70 on Metacritic. Development on the sequel reportedly kicked off in 2023 following the completion of the original's DLC cycle. The project had been circulating under the codename "Project Spicewood" before today's official reveal.

You can wishlist Minecraft Dungeons II on Steam right now. More details are expected in the coming months as the Fall 2026 launch approaches. The sequel is heading to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam, with a confirmed Fall 2026 release window. It will also be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one and supports Xbox Play Anywhere.
