Marvel's Wolverine Receives Mature Rating Including Brutal Violence, Dismemberment and Nudity

Ahead of its September launch, Marvel's Wolverine has received a Mature 17+ rating from the ESRB, featuring blood and gore, intense violence, partial nudity, and strong language — exactly what fans expected from the iconic character.

Just as we expected

Ahead of its September launch, which is approaching fast, Marvel's Wolverine has received from the ESRB a Mature rating that surprised no one. Ever since the game was announced, many of us wondered how far Insomniac would go and exactly how it would portray the iconic character of Logan. If the trailers and gameplay videos we've seen so far weren't enough to answer that question, the detailed description from the ESRB rating reveals the full picture.

Among the main reasons for the strict 17+ rating are blood and gore, drug references, intense violence, partial nudity (exposed buttocks), and strong language. We can't say we didn't expect this from a game whose main character has claws in his hands, and one associated with very violent and mature content, unlike the Spider-Man games for example, which are more suitable for children and teens. Beyond the reasons listed above, it appears the game will also contain microtransactions in some form, as noted on the rating page, though it's most likely the option to upgrade to the deluxe edition from within the game itself, which would grant you additional suits for Wolverine.

Marvel's Wolverine is set to launch on September 15 exclusively for the Playstation 5.
