It Happened: Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 Re-released on PlayStation
Black Ops 1 and Black Ops 2 have launched on the PlayStation Store as straight ports without graphical remakes or technical upgrades, disappointing players who expected features like FOV control and 120FPS support despite the $40 price tag.
A few days ago we told you that the ports of Black Ops 1 and 2 were expected to release very soon, and that's exactly what happened when both games went live on the PlayStation Store over the weekend. Despite the great excitement over the return of these two excellent games, these are re-releases and not graphical remakes or versions with improvements and changes to gameplay, with each game available at a price of $40 (or $20 for PS Plus subscribers). Many players were disappointed to discover that even though these aren't remakes, it appears the games didn't receive any technical upgrades—they don't include field of view (FOV) control or support for 120FPS despite the hardware being capable of it. Even though the PS5 has enough power to run the games at 4K, they still only run at 1080p and 60FPS, which is admittedly disappointing but still better than the 608p the games run at on XBOX via backward compatibility from the XBOX 360.
Immediately after launching the games, Activision hid the ability to see how many players are connected at any given time. The reason for the removal is apparently the company's desire to prevent players from comparing the numbers to those of Black Ops 7, which launched last year and is considered a bitter failure. On top of that, we're receiving reports that versions of the games for PC, XBOX, and Switch are not planned at this stage and it appears they're not expected to arrive down the road either.
