Here's to New Beginnings: Dave Bautista Cast as Kratos in God of War TV Adaptation

After a series of unfortunate delays, the God of War television series returns to active production

After a flurry of rumors and unverified reports, it's now official: Dave Bautista has been officially cast to play Kratos in the television adaptation of God of War, currently in production under Amazon Prime's umbrella. It should be noted that Bautista's casting comes after the role's original actor, Rayn Hurst, was injured during filming—an injury that required emergency surgery and a lengthy recovery that would have pushed the series' production back to 2027. Due to the potential filming delay, Amazon decided in partnership with Sony (which is taking an active role in producing the project) to recast the role, which Bautista will now officially take over.

The God of War television series will deliver at least two seasons, with the seasons expected to film consecutively. Filming first began this past February in Vancouver, Canada, and will now restart within a few weeks, with all scenes already shot with Hurst being reshot with Bautista. One of the factors reinforcing Amazon's choice to cast Bautista relates to his ability to adapt his physique for filming in a short timeframe, which continues to support the notion that Amazon wants to avoid production delays as much as possible.

It now appears that Bautista has been undergoing a new conditioning regimen in recent weeks to ensure he's suitable for the role physically as well, a process expected to take weeks rather than months thanks to Bautista's impressive physical capabilities. Joining Bautista in the cast are Callum Vinson as Atreus, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Mandy Patinkin as Odin, and Olafur Darri Olafsson as Thor.
