Ghost Recon Wildlands Enhanced Edition Leaks Two Weeks Before Official Announcement
A Reddit post has revealed that Ghost Recon Wildlands is getting a Definitive Edition with 4K 60FPS support, a new mission, and all Season Pass content, ahead of the franchise's 25th anniversary celebration on August 6th.
It's been a very long time since we received a new Ghost Recon game. Over a year ago, Ubisoft's CEO confirmed that the game is in development, and in recent months there have been occasional rumors about the allegedly new game currently known as Project OVR, with the most recent report we received stating that its development process is facing difficulties. Since then, several more reports have emerged about content that was planned for the game but had to be cut in order to meet deadlines. Now we're getting news about an old-new Ghost Recon that's expected to arrive soon.
Yesterday, an image appeared on Reddit showing that Ghost Recon Wildlands, which was released in 2017, is set to receive a new and enhanced version called Ghost Recon Wildlands Definitive Edition. According to the image, it appears the new version of the game will include the content released for the game so far as part of its Season Pass along with certain cosmetic items. So far, nothing particularly interesting, but alongside these you can see in the corner of the image a notice about a major update that will be part of the new version, providing a new mission alongside a technical and graphical upgrade of the game to 4K at 60FPS. The new version is expected to be available for XBOX Series X|S and PS5; PC already includes most of the content, so this version is expected to only receive an update with the new mission.
Shortly after the image was posted, the official Ghost Recon account tweeted that on August 6th the brand will celebrate its 25th birthday, and as part of the celebrations we'll receive several updates about the brand. It's likely that Ghost Recon Wildlands Definitive Edition was planned to be officially showcased on that day, but that surprise has already been ruined. Nevertheless, it's quite possible we'll also receive an announcement and/or teaser for the new game that's known to be in development alongside it. All we can do is hope, wait and see—it's time for Ghost Recon to return to the spotlight.
