You'll Be Able to Play the Entire Halo: Combat Evolved Campaign in Third Person
Halo: Combat Evolved remake surprises with the ability to play the entire campaign in third person for the first time in the series, enabled through one of 42 skulls included in the game.
The remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, the first game in the series that redefined the FPS genre, already surprised us like crazy this week with an unusually close release date - as soon as next month. Yesterday it surprised us again, revealing that we'll be able to play its entire campaign in third person - a first for the series.
For those unfamiliar, the series has a mechanic called skulls, which are typically found in game levels as physical skulls hidden in various locations, and when collected they unlock game modifiers like faster movement or stronger enemies. Halo: Combat Evolved will include 42 of these, and one of them will change the perspective to third person. This is an unusual move for a series that, as mentioned, defined the First Person genre, and even more unusual when it's a remake of a game that did exactly that. Despite being strange, it looks pretty good, and I can't wait to try it myself. With all the announcements surrounding the game, there wasn't really room to address the mysterious enemies found inside the Halo ring, so they were casually revealed at the end of the next trailer (spoilers for a nearly 30-year-old game):
Halo: Combat Evolved releases on July 28th, and five days earlier for those who purchase the Premium Edition or upgrade to it if you already have the standard version through Game Pass. The third person view isn't the biggest innovation in the game - that's obviously reserved for the fact that the XBOX flagship series will also be coming to PS5 on launch day. What do you think about the game? Are you waiting for it like we are? Let us know in the comments!
