The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt storms back to break records on Steam, posting incredible numbers for a game that's over a decade old
Who would have believed that 11 years after its original launch, Geralt of Rivia would conquer the player charts once again? The remastered version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launched this past Tuesday, and has already brought a massive wave of players back to the game, with numbers that surpass even the original launch month.
Developer CD Projekt Red celebrated the achievement by posting a screenshot to the game's official X account showing 119,852 concurrent players. But the number didn't stop there and kept climbing, with SteamDB recording a new all-time peak of no less than 120,975 simultaneous players on Steam.
To understand just how insane this number is, you need to look at the history of this masterful RPG. When it originally launched in May 2015, its Steam player peak stood at just 92,268. The hype surrounding the first season of the Netflix live-action series pushed the number to 103,329 in early 2020, and the free "next-gen" update that came out later brought it close to 90,000 players.
The new remaster numbers crush all previous records, setting the highest player count the game has ever seen on Valve's platform—an almost unbelievable achievement for a game that's been with us for over a decade.
