FIFA Returns to the Field with a New Game Called FIFA Heroes
FIFA is making its return to gaming with FIFA Heroes, a new mobile arcade-style soccer game featuring five-player teams, power-ups, and legendary players like Maradona, expected to launch in the coming weeks ahead of the World Cup.
For many years, FIFA was the game series that captured players' hearts and dominated sales charts every year when a new title launched. But as we know, a few years ago the partnership between EA and FIFA ended, and since then EA FC has been the major soccer game series released annually. Despite this, FIFA has said several times that it's planning its return to the gaming market with a new partner. Some rumors claimed this would be alongside 2K as a AAA title releasing ahead of the World Cup, but now it appears FIFA has chosen a different direction with the reveal of a new mobile game called FIFA Heroes.
The new game was revealed with a short cinematic trailer that shows us Maradona, who will be in the game, along with several cinematic gameplay clips that give us a general understanding of the game. FIFA Heroes presents an arcade direction different from what we're used to, with five-player teams competing against each other and able to use various powers and boosters to overcome their opponents. The trailer, for example, showed us a lightning strike ability that stuns the opposing team's players, as well as much more flexible and forgiving physics rules. Based on its name and the trailer's description, we can gather that we'll be able to collect soccer heroes throughout the game to build our team. While we haven't received a release date for FIFA Heroes, registration for early access is already available (and it's already on Google Play), and it's expected to launch in the coming weeks alongside the World Cup, which begins in two and a half months.
