XBOX Unveils New Achievements System and Officially Launches Disc-to-Digital Conversion Program

XBOX has revealed its new "Mythic Achievements" system that rewards players who complete all base game achievements, similar to PlayStation's Platinum trophies, and officially launched its disc-to-digital conversion program allowing physical disc owners to convert their games to digital licenses.

XBOX is updating once again with a new feature, and this time the company has revealed its new achievements system, which will go by the name "Mythic Achievements." This is essentially a system that will upgrade the company's current achievements system, which until now hasn't provided meaningful feedback to players. Now, when a player completes all the achievements a game offers (base achievements only, no need to complete achievements available in different games as part of expansion packs, for example), the system will award that player a special achievement called "Mythic Achievement" that will essentially showcase the fact that the player has completed all available achievements in the game - just like PlayStation has been doing for many years with its trophy system, which awards a Platinum trophy upon completing achievements in various games.

XBOX announced that similar to other features, Mythic Achievements will initially roll out to XBOX Insiders community members, so we can expect to wait a bit longer before this feature becomes available to the general public. It was also announced that the new system will take into account players' existing achievements, so if you've completed all the achievements in any game in the past, when the new system launches you'll automatically receive that game's Mythic achievement. The system itself will be presented to players through a new menu that will allow them to track progress and completion rate of various achievements in each game in a centralized and convenient manner.

Alongside the new achievements system, the company officially announced that its disc-to-digital conversion program has officially launched and will soon begin rolling out to all platform users. In case you forgot, this is essentially a system that will allow XBOX players who own physical game discs of certain games (not all games support this capability) to convert access to those games into a digital license that will be linked to the disc owner's user account, thereby enabling access to the game without needing to insert the physical disc into the console to verify your ownership of the game. The new feature has been tested in recent weeks by the XBOX Insiders user community and was received quite positively among players who have already tried it.

It's worth noting that if you transfer your physical disc to another user, the digital license for that disc (if you activated it) will also transfer to the new disc owner's digital user account (which essentially prevents you from duplicating game access by converting the digital license while selling the physical disc to a new party). Additionally, converting certain discs will allow the games themselves to enjoy the various features XBOX offers, starting with XBOX Play Anywhere and XBOX Cloud Gaming. Here too, not all games will necessarily support this capability.
