A Week and a Half After Announcing a New Game, Ninja Theory Is in Danger of Closure
Xbox is reportedly looking to close or sell British studio Ninja Theory just 8 days after they revealed a new game, while negotiations are underway regarding the fate of Compulsion Games and Double Fine.
Senua's story has ended
Industry layoffs continue, and after we and PlayStation said goodbye to Bluepoint Games at the beginning of the year, it's now time for Xbox to part ways with one studio—or several. First to go is British studio Ninja Theory, a complete surprise since just 8 days ago they unveiled a new game at an Xbox event. The studio's future doesn't look particularly secure, though according to the report it seems they don't intend to shut down immediately—instead, they'll first try to find new owners. The fate of the new game is also still uncertain.
Two other studios that Xbox wants to close are Compulsion Games and Double Fine, but their situation is currently "under negotiation." In early 2024, studio Toys For Bob left Activision, which is under Xbox, and went independent with a publishing deal for their next game. It's possible the two studios we mentioned could end up in the same situation, and there's also the option they could be acquired by another company. Whether you support the decision or not, you have to admit it's a somewhat strange decision given that Ninja Theory's new game was only announced 8 days ago. What do you think? Should they have closed them? Let us know in the comments!
